Five Names You'll Know by October:

OK, I've completely dropped the ball on getting a preview out in time. Whatever, it'll be out sometime next week and I won't even mention ULL in it. Some off my offseason highlights have included the Final Four, the clearinghouse being awfully kind, and learning that Jesse "Country" Daniels listens to "In the Air Tonight' by Phil Collins before every game.

Here are five fairly new impact players whose name will be called quite often throughout the season:

1. Glenn Dorsey
His screenname is groveboy72, if you were wondering. From Gonzales, Dorsey is expected to fill the void at defensive tackle left by Kyle Williams and Melvin Oliver's departure. He never started last year, but looked brilliant every time he was on the field.

2. Trindon Holliday
This freshman wide receiver will make the graduation of Skyler Green a little easier to stomach. Set to start at kick returner, Trindon is the best athlete on the team... by a longshot. Let me just quote LSUsports.net here:
One of the state's most underrated athletes who possesses incredible speed ... Posted the nation's fastest indoor times in the 55 and 60-meter dash in 2005 ... Led Northeast High School to the 2A state title in the spring of 2005 by winning the 100 and 200 meters ... Was also second in the state meet in the long jump ... Has been clocked at 4.27 seconds in the 40-yard dash ...Clocked as fast as 6.27 seconds in the 55-meter dash ... Accumulated 2,210 yards rushing (11.4 per carry) on 193 carries and 34 touchdowns as a senior ... Averaged 27.6 yards per punt return ... Rushed for 1,870 yards and 26 touchdowns as a junior ... Lightning-fast sprinter on the track ... Four-time state champion in the 200 meters and three-time state champion in the 100 meters ... Coached by David Masterson.

And he's coached by David Masterson! 27.6 yard average on punt returns! He and Ryan Perrilloux are the only incoming freshman, that I can think of, to have streaming video highlights available before playing a down of college ball. I just hope he can catch (here's to you, Xavier and Bennie!).

3. Herman Johnson aka The House
He still holds the record for birth weight in the state of Louisiana (15 pounds 14 oz). Now that's a Big Baby LOLZ. He's slimmed down to 351 from 400 and is prepared to fill any tackle or guard role on the line. Should Will Arnold (or anyone) go down this year, he could seamlessly fill the LG role.

4. Jonathan Zenon
This is one of my favorite players. Just a solid, hard-working cornerback who I can trust. I think of him as Travis Daniels minus the Hollywood. Actually, he's the anti-Chevis Jackson. He and Jesse Daniels both attended Breaux Bridge HS. Did I mention Country is my favorite player? Zenon's starting at left cornerback this year, and that makes me happy. Dude's an engineering major.

5. Luke Sanders
This one I'm not too sure about. He's pretty much brand new, only recording 7 tackles last year. He was listed as the #1 LB in Louisiana coming out of high school, and seems like he has a lot of potential to fill Killa Cam's shoes quite nicely. Also, "he spends more time in the weight room than at home." Thanks, LSUsports.net. He is a decision. maker.

So I'm about to start the pregame ritual and then eventually make my way downtown to watch the game. Going to UT-North Texas didn't compare at all... we're easily twice as loud as UT. What's with those day games, anyway?

It's no Mr. Gatti's. Hello, Austin TAF!
